The Education Directorate is to offer 30 ACT teachers the chance to hone their skills with scholarships to the University of Canberra’s (UC) Master of Education course.
Minister for Education, Yvette Berry said the scholarships would be available for 2020 to strengthen teacher capability as part of the UC’s Affiliated Schools Program.
“These scholarships benefit not only the teachers—who will improve their professional practice, confidence and skill set—but also Canberra’s students who will benefit from enhanced teaching practices,” Ms Berry said.
“The Master of Education at UC is an innovative and specially designed program that supports the development of teaching and learning in ACT public schools.”
She said the course units were designed to provide rigorous learning opportunities to support the development of a regional community of practice and were delivered in intensive blocks during school stand down periods.
“The 2020 program will be the second round of scholarships following the success of the first intensive program during the April 2019 school holidays,” Ms Berry said.
She said UC academics had praised the high calibre of teachers from the first cohort, saying they achieved more distinction and high distinction grades than any other previous masters group.
Applications for the scholarships can be made at this PS News link, with the cut-off date 27 September.
