The program for Canberra’s new winter innovation festival has been unveiled, showcasing over 50 events to entertain and inspire audiences to think about innovation and creativity in new ways.
Unveiling the Uncharted Territory program, Minister for Tourism, Andrew Barr said the unique festival, running from 7 – 16 July, would provide opportunities to engage with new concepts across a range of diverse venues.
“Uncharted Territory will give Canberrans a reason to celebrate what is special about our city during the winter months, as well as helping to increase visitation to our city at a traditionally quieter time of year, support local businesses and our tourism and hospitality industry,” Mr Barr said.
“The festival’s strategic partner, The Australian National University (ANU), will play host to a range of events, including guided workshops by the ANU Makerspace on the basics of accessible technologies, such as mould making, vinyl cutting, 3D printing, laser cutting and even sewable electronics.”
He said other events on offer included First Kiss: A Robotic Pas de Deux, which involves two robots performing a looped dance sequence in a collision between choreography and robotics; Lucie in the Sky, a ground-breaking production merging the beauty of dance with the cutting edge technology of drones; and HYPERSPECTRAL an immersive outdoor event showcasing diverse digital media, video, and sound artworks.
Mr Barr said a wide range of panel discussions and workshops would also take place during the festival, along with a Cyber Careers Tradeshow, for people to explore career opportunities in cyber security.
