Two AI powerhouses have united to empower AUKUS – and perhaps countless other organisations – with faster, smarter decision-making capabilities and the ability to respond with unmatched speed and efficiency in high-stakes environments.

A strategic partnership between leading Canberra-based provider of trusted sovereign AI solutions Trellis Data and leading US-based builder of intelligent operating systems Vantiq will arm AUKUS partners with unparalleled real-time intelligence.

Trellis Data’s advanced speech-to-text capabilities, computer vision and knowledge mastery can be used to analyse and interpret large volumes of data from various sources. It integrates seamlessly with Vantiq’s “intelligent orchestration software”, which can work with diverse sensor networks across the globe to deliver precise insights.

The marriage of the two bespoke AI solutions will help answer a growing need for advanced situational awareness and rapid decision-making in modern defence operations.

Trellis has long deployed its object-detection, vision and speech-to-text models to assist the nation’s Defence and national security sectors.

Trellis Data’s Tim McLaren says the partnership allows Trellis to take advantage of Vantiq’s data orchestration tech – combining large sensor arrays and systems so they can work in tandem – to provide real-time insights and decision-making capabilities, unlocking countless possibilities.

“For example, if you want to detect a specific vessel from underwater, Trellis would build an AI model and then work with Vantiq to integrate it with existing sensors. These could then be trained to listen and identify a particular audio signature,” he says.

Dedicated to advancing the “AI for Good” movement, Vantiq’s groundbreaking real-time capabilities are transforming cities worldwide. Its scalable platform has helped address critical challenges in industries such as healthcare, public safety, energy grids, surveillance and smart cities across the UK, USA, APAC and the Middle East.

The applications are not limited to Defence. Tim says the integration of these two “best-in-class” technologies creates a powerful foundation that can be a launching pad for countless solutions in many different industries and contexts.

“If you point this tech at a problem, we can probably solve it,” he says.

“Vantiq has customers around the world, with CCTV networks that could be trained to do everything from monitoring traffic and detecting unsafe situations to managing fleets by tracking logistics at ports.

“It has obvious Defence applications but beyond that it’s all about making cities smarter and safer, putting more eyes and ears in the field to help with things like disaster recovery.”

The partnership effectively furthers Trellis’ global distribution in a world in need of productised and trusted AI, which works for each customer.

“For instance, we recently worked with the QLD Government to help scan for biosecurity risks – plants and soils and so on. If they wanted to roll that out nationally, we could leverage the capabilities of Vantiq to scale it into a viable system,” Tim says.

“There are a range of opportunities we’re chomping at the bit to be a part of.”
