Tourists to unwind and travel kind

Victorians are being encouraged to travel with kindness as part of a new tourism initiative launched by Visit Victoria.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Visit Victoria, Brendan McClements said the Agency’s Travel Kind initiative reminded Victorians to book ahead and be patient when they visited other areas of the State.

Mr McClements said new Visit Victoria data showed that 71 per cent of Melburnian travellers were planning a trip to regional areas in the next four months, but only 14 per cent booked ahead to secure a table at pubs, restaurants and bars.

“We’re expecting some areas of Victoria to be booming with visitors when travel resumes,” he said.

“Our Travel Kind initiative is about reminding everyone to be kind to our tourism industry operators who have been doing it especially tough over the past 18 months.

“While some places will be buzzing with people again, it might mean that visitors will have to wait a little longer for their coffee, brunch or dinner to arrive.”

Mr McClements said to avoid disappointment, people should book ahead as much as possible, whether it was for a meal, accommodation, an experience or a tour.

The CEO said Visit Victoria was also calling on people to hit the road less travelled and go a little further than they normally would, “it’ll help spread the kindness across the State”.

Mr McClements said the Travel Kind initiative was an extension of the Agency’s Stay close, go further campaign, which encouraged Victorians to reconnect with the experiences, businesses and people that made the State so unique.
