A breakdown of the latest appointments in the public service nationally and across the states and territories.

APS Senior Executive Service

Band 1

Hayley Busuttil has been appointed Assistant Commissioner for Client Engagement at the Australian Tax Office.

Other federal

New appointments to the National Gallery of Australia Council

The Federal Government has appointed three new members to the National Gallery of Australia Council. A council position has a three-year term and entails supervision of the gallery’s mission of inspiring the nation with both domestic and international art.

The Minister for the Arts Tony Burke congratulated the appointees, some of whom are returning to their roles.

The appointees are:

Ilana Atlas AO – Ms Atlas has already served on the council for one term and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her service to the financial and manufacturing sectors.

Penny Fowler AM – Mrs Fowler has been on the board since March 2016 and has served as chair since January 2022. She also chairs the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, the Tourism Australia Board and the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Jay Weatherill AO – Mr Weatherill was premier of South Australia from 2011 to 2018 and served in various Cabinet positions, including Minister for Arts. He serves on various government, philanthropic and industry boards.

Top WA bureaucrat leaves job early

The Director-General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet Emily Roper has departed her position early by mutual agreement with the WA Government. She has previously held various roles across the public service in both federal and state capacities, including in national security, intelligence, and reform.

She was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2023.

Sonia Minutillo becomes NSW Privacy Commissioner

The NSW Government has announced Sonia Minutillo as the state’s new Privacy Commissioner.

Ms Minutillo has previously served as the principal investigator at NSW Industrial Relations and a non-executive director at Greenacres Disability Services.
