A breakdown of the latest appointments in the Australian Public Service, the wider public sector and across the public services of the states and territories.

APS Senior Executive Service

Band 1

Steven Yates has been appointed as an Assistant Secretary for Policy and Program Management in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Agnieszka Marek has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner for Strategy and Operations in the Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

Andrew Spencer has been announced as the Executive Manager of Human Resources and Communications at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

Leah Tuckwell has been appointed as Assistant Secretary of the Communications and Media Branch in the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Band 2

Rodney Carracher has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner for Practice Quality in the National Disability Insurance Scheme Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Other Federal Appointments

Since the federal election was called on 28 March, the Australian Government remains in a caretaker period in the lead-up to the election on 3 May. Until a new government is sworn in, government operations are conducted in accordance with the caretaker conventions, and there will likely be few appointments to key federal agencies.

States and Territories

Chloe Read has been confirmed as the permanent managing director of TAFE NSW after acting in the role since January 2025.

The Victorian Government has made nine appointments to its Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel for 2025. The panel provides advice on legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy issues that affect Victorian councils.

The appointments are: Cr Louise Crawford from Port Phillip City Council, Cr Simone Zmood from Glen Eira City Council, Cr Paul Klisaris from Monash City Council, Cr Jack Kowarzik from Cardinia Shire Council, Cr Steve Abboushi from Melton City Council, Cr Jarrod Bell from Hume City Council, Cr Ben Blain from Warrnambool City Council, Cr Rosie Annear from Mt Alexander Shire Council, and Cr Karen Hyslop from Northern Grampians Shire Council.

Greg Chemello has been appointed chair of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) board, and Amelia Hodge has also been appointed to the board.

Angelo Lambrinos has been appointed as the QBCC’s new Commissioner and CEO.
