A breakdown of the latest appointments in the Australian Public Service, the wider public sector and across the public services of the states and territories.

APS Senior Executive Service

Band 1

Lee Pluis has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the Museum of Australian Democracy.

Timothy Silvers has been named as the next Assistant People Commissioner at the Australian Taxation Office.

Thomas Beamish, Shilpa Pullela and Ruth Hill have all been appointed as Assistant Secretaries for Policy and Program Management at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Jacinta Kirkpatrick is the new National Manager of Intelligence Capabilities and International Engagement at the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre’s (AUSTRAC).

Band 2

David Higgins has been promoted to division head of the international climate and energy division at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

Other government appointments

Since the Federal Election was called on 28 March 2025, the Australian Government is in a caretaker period in advance of the election on 3 May. Until a new government is sworn in, government operations are conducted in accordance with the caretaker conventions, and there will likely be no appointments to key federal agencies.

States and Territories

Dale Agius has been appointed as South Australia’s new Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People for a three-year term, to succeed April Lawrie.
