A breakdown of the latest appointments in the Australian Public Service and across the public services of the states and territories.

APS Senior Executive Service

Band 1

Jane Hill is the new head of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s digital delivery branch.

Julia Patton has been appointed as the next Assistant Secretary for Migration, Citizenship and International Law in the Department of Home Affairs.

Alexander Philip has been appointed as Assistant Secretary for the media and governance branch in the Department of Parliamentary Services.

Nicole Bain has been appointed branch head for whole-of-government contract negotiations in the Digital Transformation Agency.

Nina Ding, Elizabeth Edwards, James Morauta and Andrew Miles have been promoted as senior assistant counsels in the Office of Parliamentary Counsel.

Matt Searson has been named as the new head of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee Secretariat in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

Band 2

Emily Martin has been promoted to First Assistant Secretary in the Department of Treasury.

Other government appointments

Former Australian men’s cricket captain Steve Waugh AO has been appointed to the Centre for Australia-India Relations Advisory Board.

The centre works across government, industry, academia and the community to build greater understanding within the Australia-India relationship and encourage business to seize the opportunities of the economic partnership. The advisory board helps set the strategic priorities for the centre’s programs and activities, supporting partnerships in business, the arts, education, health, science, technology and sport.

Liz Jack has been named as Australian Sports Commissioner.

Ms Jack is a public servant, sports administrator and former Olympic diver. She has held positions at the Tasmanian Department for Education, Children and Young People, Sport and Recreation Tasmania and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport, and most recently chaired Diving Australia.

Ingilby Dickson, Janet Finlay, Michael Carter and Jill Rossouw have been appointed to three-year terms, and Marlene Kanga AO to a two-year term, as non‑executive directors of the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) Board.

Michael Carter has been appointed as the deputy chair, Janice van Reyk as non-executive director, and Michael Byrne reappointed as non-executive director of the National Intermodal Corporation Board, each for three-year terms.

Kevin Fewster and Bülent (Hass) Dellal have been appointed as members of the council for the Australian National Maritime Museum for three-year terms.

Bill Gammage and Elizabeth Pakchung have been appointed, and Philip Bacon has been reappointed, as directors of the Bundanoon Trust board.

The Bundanon Trust is an Australian cultural institution and living arts centre that supports the arts through its residency, education, exhibition and performance programs. It is committed to the stewardship of its natural environment and built heritage, and promotes the importance of art and the Australian landscape.

Dr Scott Watkins has been appointed as chair, Professor Gordon Flake, Julianne Lee and Sung Ho Lee have been appointed as board members, and Robyn Bryant has been reappointed as a board member of the Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF). The AKF works to strengthen economic, strategic and personal links between Australia and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Tony Ayres has been appointed as a member of the Council of the National Museum of Australia for a three-year term.

Sue Hampel OAM has been reappointed to the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council for three years.

John Barrington AM has been reappointed as deputy chair of the National Portrait Gallery Board for a three-year term.

States and Territories

Sharon Schimming has been appointed as director-general for the Queensland Department of Education.

Belinda Drew has been appointed as director-general for the Queensland Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety (DFSDSCS).

Sarah Cruikshank has been appointed as director-general of the Queensland Department of Justice.

Natalie Wilde has been appointed as director-general for the Queensland Department of Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism.

Craig Davidson has been named as the new chief executive officer of Tourism and Events Queensland.

Kim Kelly has been appointed as deputy commissioner for the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission after acting in the role since September 2024.

Sue-Ann Fresneda has been appointed as chair of Construction Skills Queensland.

Maud Page has been appointed as director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Ms Page has been deputy director of collections at the gallery since 2017, and was previously deputy director of collection and exhibitions at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.

Sydney Water managing director Roch Cheroux has announced he is stepping down from the role. Executive general manager Paul Plowman is to act in the role pending the appointment of a permanent managing director.

Kate Gould will take the reins as the new CEO of Adelaide Festival Centre from July, succeeding Douglas Gautier AM.

Recently re-elected Western Australia Premier Roger Cook has announced his new ministry.
