SIX60 is a five-piece New Zealand band who are huge in NZ and are sure to follow suit here.
The band formed in Dunedin in 2008 and have gone on to become one of NZ’s biggest international touring groups.
Their two albums released in 2011 (Six60) and 2015 (Six60 2) were certified 7 times Platinum and 5 times Platinum respectively, and both peaked at #1 on the NZ charts.
Their second album spent over 100 weeks in the NZ Top 20 – a feat that very few bands have matched.
Just recently the band broke a 33-year record, scoring three singles in the Top 10 at the same time. I suspect that the previous record was held by Crowded House.
The Greatest is a fantastic piece of pop confection and it’s unbelievably catchy.
In writing this review I’ve listened to it at least 10 times in succession and I still love it.
The band won the best group category at the 2018 NZ Music Awards, one of five awards they took home on the night.
They also made history by becoming the first local act to sell out the 50,000-seat Western Springs Stadium in Auckland, a feat they’ve achieved twice.
All of the above gives you some idea of their incredible popularity in NZ, and if this single is anything to go by it won’t be long before they are lauded here.
In fact, two of their six Australian tour dates – 5 December at The Forum in Melbourne and 7 December at HOTA on the Gold Coast – have already sold out.
I don’t know what it is about our cousins across the ditch but they seem to have an uncanny knack of producing tremendous pop bands, as well as the best rugby players in the world.
Tour Dates: 5 December, The Forum Melbourne (sold out), 6 December, Croxton Melbourne, 7 December, HOTA Gold Coast (sold out), 12 December, Eatons Hill Brisbane, 13 December, Big Top Sydney, 14 December, Metro City Perth.
