Alec Baldwin was the actor satirising Donald Trump on ‘Saturday Night Live’ appears as the comical voice behind ‘The Boss Baby’, a highly-amusing and enjoyable animated comedy from filmmaker Tom McGrath which follows his success with earlier movies ‘Madagascar’ and ‘Megamind’.

As it turns out, seven-year-old Tim (Miles Bakshi in his first major feature) is the only son of his doting dad (Jimmy Kimmel – ‘Ted 2’) and his mum (Lisa Kudrow – ‘Easy A’) until the appearance of a baby brother.

Much to Tim’s surprise the baby with no name suddenly arrives at his home in a taxi wearing a business suit with tie and carrying a black briefcase, this signals the start of the sibling rivalry between them.

After overhearing Boss Baby’s phone conversation with his ‘head office’ Tim discovers his baby brother could be a spy from a baby corporation, Baby Corp, on a secret mission to retrieve their loss of market share to a puppy dog company.

It doesn’t take long before Boss Baby persuades Tim to work with him to prevent the success of a conniving plot from Francis, (Steve Buscemi – ‘The Cobbler’) the CEO of the Puppy Company.

By working together, Boss Baby is certain of achieving his goal of becoming head of the baby corporation and Tim is confident of returning to a permanent place at the centre of his parents’ attention.

McGrath’s entertaining movie maybe somewhat far-fetched in parts but there is no denying the considerable fun generated by the sibling rivalry, in particular the antics pursued by the Boss Baby – which is superbly voiced by Baldwin’s brilliant tongue-in-cheek performance.

Apart from the vibrant animation and quite a number of enjoyable scenes, McGrath’s ‘The Boss Baby’ should appeal to the entire family, in addition to providing much needed comic relief during these trying times.

Following the success of ‘The Boss Baby’ a sequel is being released later this year.

Vic’s Verdict: 3 ½ Stars
