The Script, Sony Music Entertainment Australia 2018.
I was immediately drawn to this EP because of The Script’s inclusion of a live rendition of Crazy World from one of my favourite Irish bands Aslan.
If you haven’t heard of Aslan, then as Molly would say “do yourself a favour” and look them up. I will review one of their albums in the coming months.
The release of The Acoustic Sessions corresponds with the band’s Australian leg promoting their Freedom Child album.
The EP was recorded on the road while they’ve been touring their album.
Each night the band have performed a number of acoustic tracks from a b-stage in the centre of the crowd and the response was so great that the band were encouraged to release these tracks to the public.
On the second performance of their world tour in Dublin the band were joined on stage by Aslan front-man Christy Dignam and they performed a duet with him to the Dignam penned smash hit, Crazy World.
There’s a great You-Tube video of the performance to check out.
Apparently The Script is one of the world’s most successful bands having sold over 29 million records over the past 10 years.
They’re also one of the biggest live bands having sold over 1.5 million tickets over 250 headline shows.
This EP is the first I’ve heard of them and in its pared down acoustic format it shows that these blokes know what they’re doing.
They’re good musicians, they’ve got a charismatic front-man, and their harmonies are warm and inviting.
There’s only four tracks on the disc but it’s worth getting for the live version of Crazy World alone and if this EP is anything to go by I’d guess that the Freedom Child album would be worth a listen as well.
