The Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) has released its Unearthing Western Australia Strategy 2030, outlining its long-term strategic priorities.
The GSWA is part of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).
Executive Director Geological Survey and Resource Strategy at DMIRS, Jeff Haworth (pictured) said the strategic priorities of GSWA were divided into the four main areas of garnering geoscientific knowledge, transforming the data, strengthening the team and providing trusted information.
“The resources industry in WA has continued to operate successfully in what has been a challenging year for all of us, and this strategy outlines how GSWA will continue to support the sector,” Mr Haworth said.
“GSWA is proud to provide high-quality geoscience information, advice and services to support evidence-based decisions for creating a strong economy, a resilient society and a safe and sustainable environment.”
He said Western Australia would be a major potential source of critical minerals as the world moved towards a highly technical, environmentally aware and low-carbon economy in the decade ahead, requiring an increasing range and quantity of raw materials.
Mr Haworth said that as a trusted, world-leading geological survey, the Geological Survey of Western Australia provided objective and authoritative geoscientific data, information and knowledge to support the responsible use of the State’s natural resources.
