The Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education has announced the extension of fee-free vocational education courses for bushfire affected communities.

The Minister, Geoff Lee said an initial suite of courses was announced earlier this year on the South Coast.

Mr Lee said more than 500 people had enrolled in the fee-free courses since they were made available.

“One of the best ways we can support disaster affected communities is with practical training programs,” Mr Lee said.

“These courses will equip communities with the skills they need as they rebuild and repair critical infrastructure such as homes and businesses,” he said.

“They also create new employment opportunities to assist locals to get back on their feet.”

Mr Lee said the courses would be delivered by TAFE NSW and other registered training organisations.

He said the fee-free courses were being introduced in areas such as Port Macquarie, West Kempsey, Wauchope, Tuncurry, Taree, Macksville, Cooma and Tumut.

He said courses included in the program covered first aid; white card; chainsaw and fell trees; dozer operations; and much more.

Mr Lee said further information on the range of fee-free courses for bushfire affected communities was available by calling Training Services NSW on 13 28 11.

Further information on the courses and how to enrol can be accessed at this PS News link.
