DevelopmentWA says detailed planning is under way to deliver up to 150 new homes at the former Beaconsfield TAFE site near Fremantle.
The Agency said a community consultation process resulted in more than 100 submissions over a three-week period.
“Consideration was also given to the City of Fremantle’s The Heart of Beaconsfield masterplan, which outlines a vision for the broader Beaconsfield area,” DevelopmentWA said in a statement.
“Community aspirations for the 3.8-hectare site included a focus on sustainability, new public open space, retention of mature trees and improved security and safety.”
DevelopmentWA said it was expected the redevelopment would deliver a medium-density precinct comprising a mix of climate-responsive dwelling types, including low and mid-rise apartments and townhouses.
“Social and affordable housing will be incorporated into the redevelopment, contributing to the Government’s target to deliver 3,300 social dwellings over a four-year period,” the statement said.
“Public open spaces will focus on mature tree retention where possible, a playground, and a network of pathways featuring water-wise landscaping.”
It said a draft Concept Plan had been developed, informed by feedback from the community consultation, which would form the basis for the Local Structure Plan to be lodged with the City of Fremantle in May.
