The Victoria Building Authority (VBA), Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) and Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV) have joined forces to give aspiring building surveyors hands on, practical, experience at workplaces.
Chief Executive of VBA, Sue Eddy said that under Building Surveyor Career Pathways Program final year students and graduates could apply their academic knowledge to real situations in a dynamic environment, and gain invaluable on-the-job experience.
“Building Surveyors play such an important role in the efficient and effective operation of the building industry,” Ms Eddy said.
“They often save homeowners time and money by spotting issues early before they become a bigger problem,” she said.
“We have a responsibility to do all we can to help prepare the future generation of building surveyors, which is why we are putting them in real life situations to test and hone their skills.”
Ms Eddy said Program participants already demonstrated a thirst for learning and had turned their minds to how they could influence positive change in the industry.
She said the participants received support with training, development and mentoring to build work skills and technical experience which were aligned to the requirements of registration for building inspectors and surveyors.
Chief Officer of Domestic Building Insurance at VMIA, Efy Karagiannis said the Career Pathways Program gave Victoria’s next generation of building surveyors a head start.
