It was an overdue birthday extravagance … a lavish hotel getaway … an extraordinary Australian luxury escape that created a pampering atmosphere and an unforgettable sojourn. Opulence — overlooking the Pacific Ocean!
It became a phenomenal few days spent at The Langham, Gold Coast, where precious moments became enduring memories. The impressive hotel stands in the centre — and is the tallest (49 levels) — of three eye-catching, shimmering Jewel towers situated between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. This is a stunning, absolute beachfront property that’s only three years old.
I was awe-struck from the first moment Mark drove the prestige hire car down Old Burleigh Road, Surfers Paradise, and stopped at The Langham’s entrance. Nothing prepared me for the wonderment, even though hotel entrepreneurs had spoken about “breaking new ground” and “stepping up one’s game”. It appears a grand ambition might have been fulfilled.
The lobby, with its sleek, open layout, was bustling yet efficient. The reception area was crowded but well organised with orderly queues and a high level of service. A hint of the notable ginger flower fragrance lingered in the air.
Being welcomed by Jake, I checked in, and after an active exchange of greetings was handed the keys and escorted to my one-bedroom, Hinterland, ocean-view room. It was a wonderful surprise to know I had been given an upgrade to a spacious Jewel residence! I was assured it would be more comfortable over a longer length of stay due to “a larger square-metre footprint”.
A peaceful atmosphere pervades the room, which features a refined, seaside sophistication, with extraordinary attention to detail. The finish has an impeccable level of finesse, with an open-concept kitchen and living space creating a larger, more networked area. From the balcony, we soak in the views of the expansive Pacific Ocean and the sprawling beachfront down below — from the 28th floor.

Thoughtful: Jacob Halliday, at the concierge desk at The Langham, Gold Coast, went above and beyond the call of duty.
It was a joy to witness a magnificent sunrise, which began with a soft, pastel glow that intensified into vibrant hues of pink, orange and red as the sun’s golden orb breached the horizon!
Back downstairs, at the concierge desk, when asked for directions, Jacob Halliday exceeded expectations. He accompanied me outside, pointing out highlights of the upbeat resort pool bar, within earshot of the soft swells. We are on the very edge of the Pacific Ocean.
“This is one of the popular spots at The Langham, Gold Coast,” Jacob said. “The hotel’s prime location puts it in a central spot between the two key Gold Coast destinations.
“Everyone loves it here. You have direct beachfront access to the iconic shoreline and beach walkway from the hotel.”
Exit through a small glass gate provides the shortest entrance to a beachfront path that can be used to walk north to Surfers Paradise and south to Broadbeach.
Next door to Palm Court and opposite the flower-filled pink telephone box is The Lobby Bar, a common gathering place. Beyond the lobby for that year-round summer air, it was a refreshing treat to step into 26 & Sunny, a beach surfside cafe, a vibrant concept for grab-and-go lunches or a casual dining experience before setting off on a beach stroll.
Interactive feasting experiences at a buffet of dining options across six world-class restaurants and bars were delectable, and unwinding through a holistic wellness concept at the Chuan Spa was high-end indulgence.

Spectacular: Sunrise over the Pacific Ocean, viewed from the spacious Jewel residence at The Langham, Gold Coast.
The interior is where blush shades and sophisticated grandeur are captivating. Timeless elegance meets a playful spirit and polished chic.
Realising it was a special weekend, Jacob made dinner reservations at T’ang Court for contemporary Cantonese cuisine, sister venue to the internationally renowned Michelin-starred signature restaurants in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Receiving a Paddington Bear as a gift was a delight!

In hospitality, genuineness is crucial. As Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson accurately noted: “The key is to set realistic customer expectations and then not to just meet them, but to exceed them — preferably in unexpected and helpful ways.”
