Most students in schools under Stage Three ‘Stay at Home’ COVID-19 restrictions are to return to remote learning next week for the delayed start of Term Three.
On the advice of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, students in Prep to Year 10 at government schools in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire are to learn from home from 20 July until at least 19 August.
In a joint statement the Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Education, James Merlino said that in recognition for the need to minimise disruption to Year 11 and 12 students, those students had returned to face-to-face learning this week.
“Onsite supervision will be available for students when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made – including children whose parents cannot work from home, vulnerable children and children with a disability,” Mr Andrews and Mr Merlino said.
“These arrangements will significantly reduce the movement of more than 700,000 students, as well as their parents and guardians, across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire to help slow the spread of the virus,” they said.
“We also understand that remote learning can be an even greater challenge for parents of kids with special needs.”
The Ministers said all Government specialist schools had resumed face-to-face learning this week.
They said all students in regional and rural Victoria, except the Mitchell Shire, had returned to onsite learning as normal.
