Students and teachers from 22 schools have taken part in Actsmart eco bus tours this week to view of some of Canberra’s best examples of sustainability in schools.

The Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury said 120 students from six schools acted as guides to show visiting students their outstanding examples of school sustainability.

“Some of the great initiatives on show included worm farms, waste and recycling stations, energy and water saving measures, and activities undertaken by student green teams,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“The Eco Bus tours allow students to teach and inspire students from other schools about getting the whole school involved in caring for the environment,” he said.

Mr Rattenbury said students and teachers from public and non-government primary schools had participated in the event.

He said the tours had visited Mawson Primary School, Bonython Primary School, Monash Primary School, Kaleen Primary School, Aranda Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School.

“These schools have achieved accreditation as Actsmart Schools by demonstrating excellence in sustainability in a variety of focus areas and are understandably proud of their efforts.”

“Teachers and students participating on the tour benefit from seeing sustainability projects in action and are inspired to share these ideas with their own school,” Mr Rattenbury said.
