The Department of Education has supplied more than 20,000 Chromebook devices to public high school students in Canberra since the device program was introduced two years ago.

Minister for Education, Yvette Berry said the initiative was helping ACT students to have an equal opportunity to learn.

“This builds on the program the Government has had in place for the last two years, ensuring all high school and college students have access to a device,” Ms Berry said.

“The ACT Government is committed, through the Future of Education strategy, to developing capable adults who have learnt to learn, live productively in society, think, create and work in an increasingly digital future.”

She said the use of Chromebook devices also aligned with the objectives of the Australian Curriculum, which requires students to understand how to operate effectively in a digital world.

“Having access to a device provides a great opportunity for students to expand their learning journey and I have seen some great examples of the use of devices to enhance classroom activities in ACT public schools,” the Minister said.

“Over the next two years we will continue to provide Chromebooks to new public secondary students from years seven to 12 to ensure equitable access to the learning tools of the 21st century for all students, regardless of personal circumstance,” she said.
