ACT Policing and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sport Integrity Australia to better identify and respond to threats to sports integrity when they emerge.
AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw said the agreement bolstered the AFP’s commitment to working with Sport Integrity Australia to maintain the protection and transparency of the country’s sporting industry.
“Sport forms an integral part of Australian society and this partnership sends a strong message that the AFP is committed to ensuring a safe environment for those most vulnerable, particularly our children,” Commissioner Kershaw (pictured centre right) said.
Chief Executive of Sport Integrity Australia, David Sharpe said the MoU would allow law enforcement to assist the Agency to protect sport from crime.
“We have had so many matters come through our complaints lines and both Commonwealth and State law enforcement in Australia has been exceptional in helping, guiding and assisting us through our multiple complaints and requests on protection matters,” Mr Sharpe (pictured centre left) said.
Commending all Agencies on the MoU, Deputy CEO of Sport Integrity Australia, Susie Ball thanked the AFP and ACT Policing for their support developing the agreement, and for committing to work together on threats to sports integrity.
“This MOU will capture not only the information sharing between the Agencies but will allow us to look at training opportunities together and possible other secondment arrangements to ensure coverage and expertise in this growth Agency,” Ms Ball (picture left) said.
