Sport Australia has achieved gender balance across employees, key management and other management personnel, according to a new report.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Sport Australia, Rob Dalton said the Champions of Change Coalition’s 2021 Impact Report found gender balance across overall employees, key management and other management personnel, including a 44.4% female representation on the Australian Sports Commission Board.

“We believe sport is for everyone and our team members should reflect our society,” Mr Dalton said.

“Gender diversity isn’t just sound ethical practice, it also makes sense in other areas,” he said.

“A diverse workplace fosters diverse thinking, problem solving and innovation.”

Mr Dalton said the Report found that women represented 54.5 per cent of overall employees at Sport Australia; 50 per cent of key management personnel; 45.5 per cent of Executives and General Managers; 44.6 per cent of Senior Managers; 50 per cent of ‘Other Managers’; and 57 per cent of non-managerial staff.

He said women made up the majority of new hires in 2020-21 at 65.2 per cent and received 50 per cent of promotions.

“The fourth annual Impact Report presents the actions taken from data contributions from more than 180 Member organisations operating in Australia and internationally and it is understood to be one of the largest cross-sector voluntary public disclosures on gender equality measures globally,” Mr Dalton said.

He said the Coalition’s Sport Group was committed to advancing gender equality and using the high profile of sport in Australia to help shift cultures and mindsets.
