Spain’s national police force has taken delivery of a giant drone, the EH216, which they have christened the Megadron.
The nickname does justice to its size since it is by far the largest unmanned aircraft available to the State Security Forces.
The Megadron weighs 600 kilos, is powered by electricity, and is capable of reaching 130kph in flight.
It can transport two people with a maximum load of 220 kilos.
A police spokesperson said it would be used in areas where a helicopter could not reach.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service has submitted a formal proposal for a revised wage increase for Public Servants, raising its initial offer of two per cent to 3.5 per cent, followed by 2.5 per cent in 2023 and two per cent in 2024.
However, the unions have rejected the proposal as too little in the subsequent years of 2023-24.
Secretary General of the UGT Public Services union, Julio Lacuerda said workers would be more satisfied with 3.5 per cent rises in all three years.
The Government is also considering accepting a long-standing demand of the unions — that of reducing the working week of Public Servants in the General State Administration to 35 hours, as opposed to the current 37.5 hours, which could serve as an example and also be extended to regional and local administrations.
It also expressed a willingness to carry out improvements in internal promotion, both in terms of mobility and access, and also changes in external labour staff.
