I don’t usually review singles but I’ve made an exception this time.
I have commented many times that the line between country and rock has become increasingly blurred. Silverstring Outlaws don’t bother trying to hide the divide at all – they delight in removing it completely.
They may be playing all the bush gigs, country festivals and ute musters, but they are unashamedly a rock and roll band and they do it very well.
After viewing South on YouTube my initial response was that they are a classic pub rock band, so it was no surprise to read that they were born out of the wreckage of multiple pub rock bands of the early 2000s.
They are a big outfit – seven piece in total – with a big sound and they present an energetic show that’s made them a crowd favourite on the country gig circuit.
They’ve toured widely, having performed throughout NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, ACT, and Tasmania and they’ve also supported some big name acts including The Wolverines, The Wolfe Brothers and Sunny Cowgirls.
South has already reached number one on the Country Singles Chart and it’s such a strong track that it should equally succeed in crossing over to the main pop/rock charts.
I don’t know whether it’s an early single for a follow-up album, but it’d be worthwhile keeping an eye out for future releases.
