Social distance to remain nearby

The Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk has urged Queenslanders to remain vigilant with social distancing and health care as restrictions are eased, particularly as two more COVID-19 cases came to light.

The Department of Health said there were now 17 active cases, 1,031 recovered and six deaths for a total of 1,057.

“We have to take gradual and measured steps, we can’t rush things, we have to do this process in line with the health advice,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“We are not out of the woods and we need to make sure that everybody is adhering to the expert advice, keeping up hand hygiene and social distancing, looking after one another.

She said it was a credit to Queenslanders that the State was now at Stage One, but cases were still out there.

Among the changes now in place were up to five visitors at home; gatherings of up to 10 in public; hospitality venues and beauty businesses with up to 10 patrons at a time; and recreational travel in a radius of up to 150 kilometres from home for day trips.

K’gari (Fraser Island), Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) and Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) have reopened to visitors for day trips within the 150 kilometre radius.

Ms Palaszczuk said outback residents may travel up to 500 kilometres within outback Queensland for recreation and overnight stays, and licensed firearm dealers and armourers may trade with social distancing.
