Tackling tough topics, this charming coming-of-age story is about 12-year-old Heidi (Bateman), who is growing up in isolation while living with her intellectually disabled mother (Jessica Collins).
Heidi has help from a family friend Bernadette (Woodard), but she has agoraphobia and cannot leave the house.
The fact that her mother only has 22 words in her vocabulary hasn’t bothered this bright young girl. She and her Mama are happy, who together with Bernadette, are cocooned in their own world of love.
One day, life takes a dramatic turn after her mum utters a new word. Mystery had shrouded her mother’s past. On a cross-country journey, she begins to discover the truth about her parents.
From the best-selling book by Sarah Weeks, this excursion is courageous and bold -with astonishing results.
