Transport Canberra has launched a Register to Ride program for people planning to take a free bus trip to the Anzac Day Dawn Service and other Anzac events at the Australian War Memorial on 25 April.
The Register to Ride will allow Transport Canberra to monitor and manage customer demand for bus services better which was particularly important for special events and commemorative ceremonies such as Anzac Day where demand can quickly exceed bus capacity.
The Directorate said Register to Ride pick-up locations for the Dawn Service included Gungahlin Bus Station, Westfield Belconnen, Woden Bus Station and Tuggeranong Bus Station, with continuous loop shuttles from the City Bus Station, Majura Shopping Precinct, Russell Offices and the Canberra Centre.
“Return services for both the Dawn Service and National Ceremony will depart 20 minutes after each event,” Transport Canberra said.
“Passengers do not need to register for return travel.”
It said that with parking at the venue limited, and many road closures in place, taking a bus to the events or combining light rail, walking and cycling with bus travel were convenient ways to ensure those wanting to pay their respects could attend the commemorations.
“Passengers who wear or display their war service medals can ride on any Transport Canberra bus for free during Anzac Day with buses riding to a public holiday timetable,” Transport Canberra said.
Registering to ride to the events can be made on the Transport Canberra website at this PS News link.
