APRA Board expanded
Helen Rowell (pictured) has been reappointed for a five-year term as Deputy Chair of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).
John Lonsdale will be appointed as an additional Deputy Chair of APRA for a five-year term, if Parliament agrees to amending legislation.
Mrs Rowell has been an APRA member since July 2013 and a Deputy Chair since November 2015.
Mr Lonsdale is currently Deputy Secretary of the Markets Group at the Treasury.
He also headed the Secretariat of the Financial System Inquiry in 2014.
Gaetjens to OECD
Philip Gaetjens has been appointed Australia’s next Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
Mr Gaetjens is currently Chief of Staff to Treasurer, Scott Morrison and has worked overseas as inaugural Director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Policy Support Unit in Singapore.
Mr Gaetjens was also Secretary of the New South Wales Treasury from 2011 to 2015 and has held positions in the Commonwealth Treasury, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the South Australian Treasury and Finance Department.
He replaces Brian Pontifex who has been Ambassador to the OECD since 2015
Versegi to champion health security
Peter Versegi has been appointed Australia’s next Ambassador for Regional Health Security.
The role of the Ambassador is to champion Australia’s commitment to building regional resilience to health security challenges.
Mr Versegi is currently First Assistant Secretary of the Development Policy Division at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
He has served overseas at the United Nations in New York and the World Bank in Washington, DC.
In Canberra Mr Versegi has served as First Assistant Secretary, Office of Development Effectiveness, and Assistant Secretary, Office of Development Effectiveness.
He replaces Blair Exell, who has held the position since 2017.
Infrastructure to lose Davies
Chief Executive of Infrastructure Australia, Philip Davies has resigned with effect at the end of August.
Recruitment for a new Chief Executive has begun.
Separately, Infrastructure Australia has appointed Peter Colacino as its Executive Director of Policy and Research from 2 July.
Mr Colacino is currently Executive General Manager of Corporate Affairs at NRMA.
Beanland stays at Archives
Historian and former Queensland Attorney-General, Denver Beanland has been reappointed Chair of the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council for a three-year term.
He was initially appointed in June 2015.
Dr Beanland holds a PhD in history from the University of Queensland and served as a Member of the Queensland Parliament from 1986 to 2001.
Smith to Taskforce
Former Minister for Defence, Trade and Foreign Affairs Stephen Smith has been appointed to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science’s Resources 2030 Taskforce.
Professor Smith is currently a Professor of International Law at the University of Western Australia.
The Resources 2030 Taskforce will develop recommendations to help ensure the resources sector is strong, competitive and sustainable in the face of global challenges and will make its recommendations by the end of August.
