Guivarra to represent in Spain

Julie-Ann Guivarra (pictured) has been appointed Australia’s Ambassador to Spain with non-resident accreditation to Andorra and Equatorial Guinea.

Ms Guivarra is Assistant Secretary, South East Asia Investment and Services Branch at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

She has served overseas in Geneva and New Delhi and in Canberra has been Assistant Secretary, South East Asia Analytical and Effectiveness Branch; Director, Services Trade and Negotiations Section; and Director, Trade and Environment Section.

Ms Guivarra replaces Virginia Greville, who has held the position in Madrid since 2015.


Jadwat to Saudi Arabia

Ridwaan Jadwat has been appointed Australia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, with non-resident accreditation to Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.

Mr Jadwat is Assistant Secretary and Head of Policy, ASEAN-Australia Summit 2018 Taskforce in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

He has served overseas in Kuala Lumpur and Tehran and in Canberra has been Assistant Secretary, South and Southeast Asia, Americas and Middle East Branch (Prime Minister and Cabinet) and Director, ASEAN and EAS Section (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade).

Mr Jadwat replaces Ralph King, who has held the position since 2015.


Stewart for Serbia

Ruth Stewart has been appointeds Australia’s Ambassador to Serbia, with non-resident accreditation to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro.

Ms Stewart was most recently Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh.

She has also served overseas in Yangon and Stockholm and in Canberra, her positions have included Director, ASEAN Section and Director, Myanmar Section.

She replaces Julia Feeney, who has held the position since 2013.


Pair joins river Authority

Joanna Hewitt and Professor Stuart Bunn have been appointed acting part-time members of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.

They will act in the roles until substantive appointments are made.

Ms Hewitt has served as an adviser to the World Bank on water policy and a Commissioner of the former Murray–Darling Basin Commission and Professor Bunn is the Director of the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University.

The pair replace Barry Hart and Diana Davidson.
