Outram to ABF Commissioner
Michael Outram (pictured) has been appointed Commissioner of the Australian Border Force (ABF).
Mr Outram has previously filled the roles of Deputy ABF Commissioner of Operations and Acting Commissioner.
He has more than 30 years’ experience in law enforcement and public service in Australia and the United Kingdom, including frontline positions tackling terrorism, organised crime and corruption.
Clark to space role
Former Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Megan Clark has been appointed interim head of the newly formed Australian Space Agency.
The Agency is to commence operations on 1 July this year to support the development of an Australian space industry, coordinate activities in the nation’s space sector and help build networks and supply opportunities around the world.
Dr Clark will lead the Agency for its first 12 months.
Halliday to Dubai
Ian Halliday has been appointed Australia’s Consul-General and Senior Trade Commissioner in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
Mr Halliday was previously Managing Director of Dairy Australia and his experience in the commercial food and agribusiness sector in Asia and the Middle East is expected to benefit Australian exporters.
He replaces Gerard Seeber, who has held the position since January 2012.
de Brouwer to review Woomera
Dr Gordon de Brouwer has been appointed to head the 2018 Review of the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) Coexistence Framework.
The Framework designates Defence as the primary user of the WPA for the testing of war materiel and ensures access to the WPA for a range of non-Defence users, including Aboriginal groups, the resources sector, pastoralists and tourists.
Dr de Brouwer, the former Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Energy, will guide the development of a contemporary coexistence framework that will shape the use of the area over the next decade.
The Department of Defence and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science will support the review, which is to be completed by the end of the year.
New members for ABC, SBS
Joseph Gersh has been appointed to the Board of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Christine Zeitz to the Board of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS).
They will both serve as non-executive directors for five years.
Mr Gersh is the founder and Executive Chair of Gersh Investment Partners, and has also served as Chair and Board Member of Artbank and Deputy Chair of the Australia Council for the Arts.
Mrs Zeitz has more than 25 years’ experience with BAE Systems and is currently a Board Member of the Institute for Regional Security, the Centre for Defence Industry Capability and the Flinders University Council.
