The Parks and Conservation Service has launched its annual recruitment drive for seasonal fire fighters.
Minister for Environment and Heritage, Mick Gentleman has hailed the drive as an exciting opportunity for people who wanted to contribute to the safety of the region and who enjoyed working outside, to join the fire management team.
“The seasonal fire fighters assist with fuel reduction, fuel hazard assessment and other fire management activities on ACT Government managed land,” Mr Gentleman said.
“They also help provide increased firefighting capacity for the Emergency Service’s Agency Rural Fire Service and assist with fires in remote areas.”
He said the Service was looking for people who worked well in a team and were keen to learn new skills.
“While experience is always a good thing, the successful applicants will be given full training in bushfire fighting, chainsaw operations, driving four-wheel drives, advanced first aid, and other on-the-job duties,” Mr. Gentleman said.
“Seasonal fire fighters gain valuable skills and experience. Nearly half of last year’s seasonal fire fighters are still employed with the fire management team.”
He said there were 15 places available in the seasonal fire team, including three seasonal crew leader, and encouraged interested people to attend an information night at the Stromlo Depot in Cotter Road on Wednesday 20 June.
Mr. Gentleman said information about the positions could be found at www.jobs.act.gov.au and details of the information night were available by emailing [email protected].
Applications close on 26 June.
