New public schools in new suburbs and expansions and upgrades of existing schools in other suburbs are to be funded in the forthcoming ACT Budget.
Minister for Education, Yvette Berry said that among the projects, $47 million is to be allocated in the Budget to build a new school in Molonglo to open in 2021.
Ms Berry said the school would be in Denman Prospect and would cater for Kindergarten to Year 6 enrolment of 600 students and 44 full-time equivalent preschool students, with space for future growth.
She said high-quality learning environments, incorporating both indoor and outdoor learning areas, as well as integrated spaces to support students with specialised needs, would be provided at the facility.
“The Government will also undertake early planning and feasibility work for a future Years 7-to-10 campus that will come online as Molonglo grows,” Ms Berry said.
“The 2018 Budget will deliver $18.8 million to replace buildings at Campbell Primary School with new, modern learning facilities and upgrade ageing infrastructure.”
She said there would also be funds to provide Franklin Early Childhood School with transportable buildings to immediately expand the school to accommodate current Year 2 students in a new 2019 Year 3 class and beyond.
Ms Berry said there would also be an allocation to plan and consult on a permanent expansion to a full preschool to Year 6 school.
