The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources’ (DISER) Australian Space Discovery Centre is partnering with the Airbus Foundation to celebrate World Space Week next week (4-10 October) with the launch of robotics workshops for kids.
The Centre said its Mission to Mars schools workshops aimed to introduce students in Years 7 to 10 to the world of robotics and the space industry.
“The students will investigate the design and abilities of the Ariane 5 rocket,” the Centre said.
“The workshop will explore the whys and the hows of reaching Mars using advanced technologies in power, telecommunication and rockets,” it said.
The Centre said students would also have to opportunity to explore the Space Gallery.
It said the sessions, to be held at the Discovery Centre in Adelaide, were 75 minutes long, including 45 minutes for the Mission to Mars workshop and 30 minutes to explore the Space Gallery.
“The Discovery Centre aims to inspire the next generation of the space workforce with stories of innovation, curiosity and technology,” it said.
“This is where you can learn about Australia’s role in expanding national and international space activities.”
The Centre said the Mission to Mars schools workshops were scheduled to take place on 13 and 14 October and schools must book in advance.
