Schools across Australia are being urged to join in Australia’s ninth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence to be held this year on Friday, 15 March.
Prime Minister, Scott Morrison and Minister for Education, Dan Tehan, have written to the schools encouraging students, teachers and school leaders to sign up for the day of action.
“Everyone can take action against bullying,” Mr Morrison said.
“It is an issue that is sadly affecting more and more of our kids and everyone in the community can do something about it.”
The Ministers said more than 4,750 schools had already committed to taking action this year but around 4,650 had yet to register.
“We have already surpassed the two million students who took part in last year’s event,” they said.
“Around half of all students in Years 3 to 5 report some level of bullying and more than 20 per cent are being bullied for two years and more.”
They said research from the Office of the eSafety Commissioner revealed that one in five young Australians had experienced cyberbullying.
“Parents want to know that students, teachers and school leaders have the best tools to deal with bullying and cyberbullying.
“The National Day of Action is a national movement.”
The Ministers said they wanted to see more and more schools around the nation taking a stand against bullying and registrations were now open for them to join in the National Day of Action.
They said schools that participated received new anti-bullying materials and teaching resources.
