Here’s another band that has emerged through the Triple J Unearthed format.

The Coldest Wind are a four-piece hard rock band comprised of James Browne on guitar, Tim Kirby on drums, Lit Hernandez on bass and lead singer Aaron Smith.

All of these band members have experienced their own journey through rock’n’roll to arrive where they are today and in doing so they have each gained valuable experience in the industry.

Lead guitarist James Browne for example has performed on the same stage as The Foo Fighters, The Offspring and Green Day, while drummer Kirby has graced the stage supporting bands such as Grinspoon and Silverchair.

Save Your Breath is their debut single and it represents the years of gigging and hard work that the members have experienced plus the hard rock influences that each of them love.

The track opens with a solid distorted guitar riff that sets the scene for an exploration of the world of heavy rock.

These guys really are sponges because they have soaked up all the nuances of all your favourite solid rock bands and blended them into one sound.

There are bits of Metallica, Janes Addiction, Slayer, Machine Gun Fellatio and many more that make up The Coldest Wind sound but the end product is all their own.

The inspiration for Save Your Breath came from a conversation that front man Aaron Smith had with a friend who was going through a hard time.

His friend was in a toxic relationship and needed someone to talk to and after listening to him for a while Aaron said, “mate save your breath, she’s screwing you around.”

The conversation happened to coincide with James and the rest of his band mates coming up with the signature riff to Save Your Breath and, according to Aaron, the song pretty well wrote itself.

All this goes to show that if you don’t want your private conversations made public then don’t confide in a songwriter.
