The Maritime division of Transport for NSW has released an aquatic events guide for Sydneysiders to help them better plan their summer boating activities.
Executive Director at NSW Maritime, Mark Hutchings said the booklet, Sydney’s Summer Aquatic Events Guide, provided advice for skippers planning to head out to view aquatic events, starting with today’s Big Boat Challenge.
“This is a great resource I’d recommend for every boater, with a handy list of upcoming events, locations, safety advice, vantage points, race courses and maps to assist skippers plan their day out,” Mr Hutchings said.
“Three key events covered in the guide include Sydney New Year’s Eve, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race start and Australia Day on Sydney Harbour,” he said.
Mr Hutchings said the guide also provided advice for boaters on anchoring, special-event navigation restrictions and exclusion zones.
He said safety information was included to help boaters plan ahead and follow regulations around lifejackets, distress flares and alcohol restrictions.
Mr Hutchings said the guide was free and available from boating clubs, marinas and specialist marine and outdoor retailers across Sydney.
