Safe Work Australia has published a revised version of its Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022.
Releasing the new version, Safe Work Australia said it contained some minor language changes and more explicit references to workplace bullying, harassment and occupational violence.
It said the update should keep the Strategy relevant for the next five years.
The changes came about as a result of the Strategy’s scheduled mid-term review which showed that overall support for its measures remained largely unchanged.
“The review did highlight some areas for greater attention to ensure the Strategy has greatest impact going forward,” the Agency said.
It said that following the review, a number of actions were agreed for adoption including a detailed analysis of the causes and controls of work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses with an initial focus on the agriculture industry and musculoskeletal disorders; exploration of national lead indicators to support improved workplace performance measurement and reporting; and development of effective information sharing and improved coordination of activities implemented under the Strategy.
“We are continuing to work with the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, industry, unions and the community to achieve the Strategy’s vision of ‘healthy, safe and productive working lives’ for all,” Work Safe Australia said.
