Safe Work Australia is to mark next Sunday (28 April) as the World Day for Safety and Health at Work and as Workers’ Memorial Day.

Under the theme, A Safe and Healthy Future of Work, World Day for Safety and Health at Work is to be used to promote a safe and healthy workplace now and into the future.

In a statement, Safe Work Australia said that as digital technologies and automation became more common, employment and workplaces were changing.

“It’s important that with an ageing workforce and rising levels of stress we need to plan our future workplaces and ensure we make them safe and healthy and reduce the risk of workplace injury,” the statement said.

In addition, Worker’s Memorial Day would honour those who had died from work-related injury or illness.

It said activities encouraged for the day included the promotion of World Day in every workplace; attendance at local workers’ Memorial Day events; a check of the Safe Work Australia website to share the Agency’s social media posts; the use of #worldWHSday2019 on social media; and arranging a safety expert to speak in workplaces.

Safe Work Australia urged people to read the Workplace Safety Futures report online which explored the future of work and the impact of emerging trends on work health and safety and workers’ compensation over the next 20 years.

The 47-page Workplace Safety Futures report can be accessed at this PS News link.
