New ABS figures have revealed that South Australian exports to the United States are at an all-time high.

Exports to the US reached a value of $2.49 billion in the year to September, an increase of more than $352 million, or 16 per cent, on the previous year.

The US is the state’s second-largest export market, behind China, and the government has said that South Australian exporters have shown their resilience by increasing sales during difficulties in international trade.

South Australia recently sent a trade mission to the US and Canada, led by Minister Joe Szakacs, which focused on building the state’s industrial base and readying manufacturing for AUKUS-related opportunities.

“South Australian exporters are continuing to punch above their weight in one of the world’s most competitive markets,” Mr Szakacs said.

“Despite global pressures, our exporters are achieving record results in the United States.

“This is not only proof that South Australian products are world-class and almost impossible to replace, but also proof of the fact that our state’s relationship and our nation’s relationship with the US remains strong.”

The State Government said AUKUS provided an opportunity to transform the state’s economy and diversify industrial capacity.

Growth remains strong in the Canadian market, with importers buying more than $500 million worth of South Australian goods over the year to September.

Trade with Canada has risen by more than $58 million to $528 million, a spike that the South Australian Government attributed to its efforts to diversify trade.

“We will keep putting our focus into developing strong relationships that deliver for our state now and into the future,” Mr Szakacs said.
