RSM has a pedigree in the nation’s capital for its risk, business and financial advisory services – but it hasn’t become part of a century old success story by resting on its laurels.

As the market and client needs have evolved, the business has progressively diversified its services, products and expertise in areas like data and analytics, cyber security and privacy, environmental sustainability and governance, digital advisory and now, management consulting.

Partner in RSM Management Consulting Tim Ryan was brought on in October to head up the new management consulting service line, with the federal government as its primary client.

He said the growth the business was already experiencing in this new service line came down to two strengths.

“RSM is a very client-centric company. They actively engage with clients to understand their needs, and then tailor solutions and services to best meet those needs. We take a pragmatic, collaborative, outcomes-focused approach,” he said.

“That model of engagement appeals to me, because I’ve seen it work successfully for government clients. It’s one of the business’s core values and something that very much resonates with the market, as well as with myself and my team.”

Tim said the other key strength was the company’s standing as a multidisciplinary organisation, allowing teams to draw on skills and expertise from across its vast network.

“RSM has deep expertise in several critical business-enabling components. The ability to draw on this expertise as you’re problem-solving or helping build integrated capability is of great value to our clients,” he said.

“We have extensive experience working with industry providers across a range of sectors from health to education and agri-business. Our government clients are looking for support from organisations that bring this expertise to the table. That’s RSM.”

Tim and his ever-expanding consulting team, currently including Peter Duncan and Chris Perry, are part of the broader Risk Advisory Services unit in Canberra. From a national perspective, he works very closely with his interstate counterparts Don Holley (NSW) and Sunith de Fonseka (Victoria).

“It really makes a difference being part of such a talented, multi-disciplinary team. Each member has complementary consulting expertise, which we draw on to support our clients,” Tim said.

“Our primary objective is to partner with departments and provide a range of tailored implementation and capability-building services underpinning business transformation and improvement.

“These services range from business case development to all aspects of project and program management, business and data analytics, change management and cyber security and resilience.”

RSM in Canberra is on a range of government panels for these services, including the Management Advisory Services Panel and Cloud and Digital Marketplace.
