Jeremy Rockliff is forging ahead with his new ministry after being recommissioned as Premier of Tasmania.
Though he has been reappointed, Mr Rockliff’s electoral future remains uncertain as Labor leader Dean Winter says he will move a no-confidence motion against him when Parliament resumes on 19 August.
If Mr Winter goes ahead with the plan, it will be the second no-confidence motion against the Premier in two months, after Labor’s recent challenge triggered an election more than two years before it was expected.
“We are getting on with the job for Tasmanians,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Tasmanians have voted, and we must respect the will of the people.”
The electoral map of Tasmania remains largely the same after the election, with the Liberals holding onto their 14 seats and Labor holding onto its 10, though with a decreased primary vote. Neither party can govern in its own right.
Mr Rockliff’s new ministry comprises:
- Bridget Archer as Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Minister for Ageing and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs
- Gavin Pearce as Minister for Primary Industries and Water and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs
- Eric Abetz as the new Treasurer and Leader of the House and Minister for Macquarie Point Urban Renewal
- Guy Barnett as Deputy Premier and Attorney-General. He will also take over a swath of departments: Minister for Justice, Corrections and Rehabilitation, Minister for Small Business, Minister for Trade and Minister for Consumer Affairs
- Felix Ellis as Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Minister for Skills and Jobs, and Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management
- Jane Howlett as Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Minister for Racing, and Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence
- Nick Duigan will stay in his roles as Minister for Energy and Renewables, Minister for Parks and Minister for Sports
- Jo Palmer will be Minister for Education, Children and Youth, and Minister for Disability Services
- Madeleine Ogilvie will be Minister for Environment, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, and Minister for Arts and Heritage
