Motorists from multicultural communities can now access important road rules information in their own language with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) launching eight translated versions of its Road Users Handbook.
Deputy Secretary of Safety, Environment and Regulation at TfNSW, Tara McCarthy said the Handbook covered important road rules that motorists needed to know to drive legally and safely on NSW roads.
“The Handbook is essential reading for anyone learning to drive and includes information covered in the Driver Knowledge Test, which novice drivers must pass to get a learner licence,” Ms McCarthy said.
“As spoken language and migration trends have changed over time in NSW, we reviewed the current languages available to ensure the latest version of the handbook is in key languages,” she said.
“The publication is now available in Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Farsi, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese.”
Ms McCarthy said Farsi, Thai and Simplified Chinese were new additions to the suite of translations.
“The Handbook is written in plain, easy to understand language and while it is aimed at learner drivers, it can also be used by other drivers and road users to check the rules, understand their legal responsibilities and learn safe driving behaviour,” the Deputy Secretary said.
