A new Safety Town road show in schools featuring the characters Daisy and Sprocket has been launched by the Ministers for Roads and Education.
Minister for Roads, Andrew Constance and Minister for Education, Sarah Mitchell joined the colourful stars and students to remind everyone of the importance of road safety.
Mr Constance said the mascots were keys to helping children remember vital road rules and safety tips that keep them safe.
“Children are our most vulnerable and inexperienced road users and ensuring their safety on our roads is a key priority,” Mr Constance said.
“Road safety education is an essential part of the safety measures undertaken around NSW schools and bringing these characters into communities will ensure our safety messages cut through,” he said.
“We have improved the visibility of school zones by installing at least one set of school zone flashing lights at every NSW school.”
Mr Constance said School Crossing Supervisors also played a vital role in protecting children and the Government was allocating $18.5 million to employ 300 more supervisors over the next four years.
Ms Mitchell said road safety education was essential for children attending any school across the State.
“Whether your child attends a busy inner city school like Glenmore Road Public in Sydney or a primary school in a quiet rural community, the road safety messages are the same,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Children need to cross the road in a safe place and to ‘stop, look, listen and think’ before stepping out onto the road,” she said.
