The State’s firefighters are vying for their station to receive one of five awards, with the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) regional station proficiency and audit assessments now underway.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) of Regional Operations for the MFS, Colin Lindsay said the annual assessments at the State’s 17 regional MFS stations were expected to continue through until the end of September, giving regional MFS firefighters the chance to demonstrate their skills, community spirit and commitment to public safety.

MFS ACFO Lindsay said that at the completion of the process, five of the 17 MFS regional stations would receive awards including the Chief Officer’s Shield, Regional Command Shield, Regional Assistant Chief Officer’s Shield, Most Improved Shield and the Family Friendly Regional Station Award.

“The aim of the audits is to assess skill areas in all areas of incident command and control, safety, rescue and utilisation of resources,” he said.

“Each year our regional MFS firefighters ensure the station environment, along with fire trucks and equipment are prepared to the highest standards, which results in a very tight and close competition in the selection of award winners.”

MFS ACFO Lindsay said the fire service was also looking for new members from regional communities who were interested in becoming a Paid Part-time MFS Firefighter.

“If you are community minded, are fit, healthy, and possess personal and professional values that align with ours, then working for the MFS could be for you,” he said.

Further information about becoming a Paid-Part-time firefighter can be accessed on the MFS website at this PS News link or via email at [email protected].
