Regional buying push goes online

The NSW Government’s Buy Regional campaign has been expanded, now directly linking shoppers to businesses in communities affected by bushfire and drought.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW and Disaster Recovery, John Barilaro said trade was slow in bushfire-affected towns due to tourists avoiding areas near fires and major road closures

“Even as fires continue to burn across the state, recovery work is already underway,” Mr Barilaro said.

“An important part of this is helping local businesses keep their doors open,” he said.

“[This] in turn supports local jobs and keeps money circulating in the local community.”

Mr Barilaro said the Buy Regional webpage made it easy for people to find a wide range of items from businesses in towns “doing it tough”, including areas that were not yet ready for tourists and visitors.

The Minister for Small Business, Damien Tudehope said businesses in bushfire-affected areas featured on the Buy Regional website included retailers of food, wine, fashion, art and design, wellbeing and experiences.

Mr Tudehope said business owners in bushfire or drought-affected areas could register for free and join over 350 other businesses that appear on the site.
