ACT Fire and Rescue (ACTF&R) has welcomed 17 new recruits following their completion of an intensive 22-week training period.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman said the new recruits had been prepared for the day-to day challenges of being a firefighter in the ACT.
“With COVID-19 restrictions in place, the new recruits faced hurdles early in their careers that they easily overcame showing great determination and resilience,” Mr Gentleman said.
“These new firefighters will be doing a great service for their community and will be a welcome boost to their new teams,” he said.
“During the training course, the recruits participated in a range of simulations such as building inspections and hose drills to prepare them for their role as a firefighter.”
“This also involved working with ACT Parks and Conservation Service to safely gain access to Gibraltar Falls and Tuggeranong Dam Wall to undertake rescue drills.”
Mr Gentleman said the new graduates would be placed to work collaboratively within the ACT Fire & Rescue service and all other emergency services in the ACT.
Chief Officer at ACT Fire and Rescue, Chris Zeitlhofer said ACTF&R was proud of the resilience and dedication the graduates had shown.
