Corrective Services has launched a recruiting drive aimed at finding 82 more officers for the Capricornia Correctional Centre.
As part of a $241 million expansion of the centre, 76 Custodial Correctional Officers and six Trade Instructors are needed to begin training by the end of the month.
Corrections Commissioner, Peter Martin said that people from all walks of life should consider applying and there had never been a better time to consider a career in Corrective Services.
“We are looking for people with excellent communication skills and a strong desire to make a difference in crime prevention and community safety in Rockhampton,” Commissioner Martin said.
“You must have empathy, be able to communicate well, and undertake your role ethically and professionally.”
He said Corrective Services was an organisation responsible for looking after the most complex and challenging people in society, truly on the front line of community safety.
“Custodial Correctional Officers come from a variety of different backgrounds and we value life experience, resilience and maturity,” Commissioner Martin said.
“If you are one of Queensland’s 82 most wanted, I strongly suggest that you make yourself known to our recruiting team.”
Successful applicants will undertake training in the paid 10-week full-time Custodial Officer Entry Program through the Queensland Corrective Services Academy beginning on 28 September.
The course consists of a range of academic, scenario-based written and physical assessments.
