The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) has warned visitors to Crows Nest National Park, north of Toowoomba, to avoid the waterhole below the falls.
Acting Regional Director at QPWS, Brett Roberts said the waterhole was closed due to unstable rock formations around the bottom of the waterfall.
“In recent years a number of rock falls have occurred around the waterhole and people have been seriously injured after falling from the cliff face,” Mr Roberts said.
“Public safety is our number one priority. As the weather heats up, we are reminding visitors to the park to obey all signage by staying out of the waterhole.”
He said information about the restricted access area had been placed at the start of the main walking track to the falls and rangers regularly patrolled the area.
“Visitors can safely swim at a number of other spots within the national park including Bottlebrush Pool,” Mr Roberts said.
“Fines of up to $400 can be issued to anyone entering a restricted access area.”
Mr Roberts said the forest community and granite landscape impacted by drought and wildfires in November 2019 continued to recover slowly.
“The Crow Nest Falls Lookout, walking tracks and popular visitor sites remain open,” he said.
