Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has announced that a record number of 156 recruits are currently undergoing training at the QCS Academy.
Minister for Corrective Services, Mark Ryan said that last year the Government announced that the State’s two privately-run prisons would come under Government control and the recruits represented some of the additional staff required.
“More than ever right now, every job counts, and QCS is a major employer in our regions,” Mr Ryan said.
“Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre is on track to transition to public operation next month, and Southern Queensland Correctional Centre is set to transition next year.”
He said due to COVID-19 restrictions, the group would have their formal graduation ceremony held at a later date.
“The QCS Academy has done a great job of training this group, particularly considering the social distancing required during the pandemic,” Mr Ryan said.
“This training program is intensive, as officers are equipped to undertake their vital public safety roles, managing the most complex and challenging people in our society.”
QCS Commissioner, Peter Martin congratulated the new officers and encouraged others looking for a stable, interesting job with a wide variety of career paths and job opportunities throughout Queensland to “take a look inside”.
“There has never been a better time to consider joining an aspiring top-tier, front-line public safety Agency to help transform lives and communities every day,” Commissioner Martin said.
