I’m sure you haven’t had the slightest reason to ponder the future of the current government over the holidays and in fact it was quite satisfying to not have too much on the usual networks to annoy us all…. but my little collection of the end of year participants in sundry events was a reasonably sober look at the odds and sods we’ve collected in our parliament.
Tony Burke MP twanged a bit of guitar for the carols in the cloisters while Barnaby J kept on smiling for any close camera as the ever lovely media maidens Laura Tingle and Karen Middleton held the chorus together for a disparate group of choristers.
The other occasional audience was like a passing parade of ‘members between parties’ with the many knees-ups happening around the house. But most sat quietly taking a moment to join in the joyful part of the Christmas Season of Songs.
At the National Press Club, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten left his party to front up to open the rather smart refurbished space at the club, with regulars and usual suspects enjoying the ambiance.
And who will be back when the dust settles after the upcoming election?
We reluctant followers of the party games we have when we’d rather be having proper party games ponder and proselytise on all manner of possibilities but would really love to just sit on a beach and ponder nothing.
