Queensland Health has announced a further easing of COVID-19 rules with most venues that had been restricted to vaccinated staff and patrons, open to all in time for Easter.

The easing of the restriction, to apply from Thursday (14 April) include pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants, theme parks, casinos, cinemas, weddings, showgrounds, galleries, libraries, museums and stadiums.

The requirement for vaccinations will still apply to vulnerable settings including hospitals, aged and disability care facilities, prisons, schools and early childhood centres.

Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said the restrictions had achieved their purpose of slowing the spread of the virus.

“More than 90 per cent of Queenslanders 12 and over have been fully vaccinated. The Chief Health Officer advises we can now safely ease these settings and still maintain a high level of protection,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

Minister for Health, Yvette D’Ath said by Thursday it was anticipated a stage of the current wave would have been reached where it was comfortable to take this next step.

Chief Health Officer, John Gerrard appealed particularly to parents and carers to consider getting young children vaccinated.

“The numbers of young Queensland children vaccinated are still not where they should be,” Dr Gerrard said.

“Their best protection is the vaccine and I would encourage every parent to consider it.”
